What To Buy... NOW.

As we all know, there is a very awkward time between one season and the next where all you see in stores are the next season's items... But all you want is a new top or dress to wear that night!!  So... What to do??  Well here's a little guide I put together of items that are safe to buy and wear now, but that will last well into the Spring season.  (And really, who wants to invest in a piece that only lasts 3 months anyway?!)

#1 - A Sheer Blouse.

Right Now:  Wear it with a lacy cami (think lingerie-like) underneath and a blazer on top.  Skinny jeans work, but wearing it tucked into dress shorts with tights underneath is a trendy look that will still keep you warm!!

Spring Look:  Be bold... Wear it with a contrasting (pretty!) bra underneath.  Let it drape over a tight bandage skirt or pair it with jeggings on a cool Spring night.

Blaque Label Sweet Thang Coral Top
$63 at lulus.com

#2 - Colored Denim.

Right Now:  The key to making Spring-colored denim work for Winter is to wear it with black... A black, drapey, batwing top and sky-high black heels for a sexy cool-weather look.  Add a black leather jacket and charcoal infinity scarf to make them more appropriate for Winter weather.

Spring Look:  Go light and airy with sheer, floaty tops and camisoles.  A neutral-colored blazer or leather jacket will make these colors pop and will keep you warm on cool Spring evenings.

Blank NYC Spray On Salmon Pink Jeggings

Rag & Bone The Skinny Jean in "Bluebird"

#3 - Ankle Jeans.

Right Now:  Wear boots over them.  Nobody will know they're ankle length and your ankles won't freeze outside!!
Spring Look:  Wear them with anything and everything - ballet flats, loafers, heels.  I think heels make them super flattering, but that's just my opinion!!  : )

Current/Elliott The Ankle Skinny Jeans in "Commodore"

7 For All Mankind Cropped Skinny with Ankle Zip Jean in "Earheart"

#4 - Lace!!!

Right Now: Layer lace pieces with camisoles underneath and a scarf on top.  Structured blazers and leather jackets look great with lace, as do leather jeggings and black skinnies.

Spring Look:  Anything goes!!  Colored denim, jeans, metallic shorts, nude-colored blazers... These feminine, lacy tops pair so well with everything!!

Joie Fanny Lace Top in "Porcelain"
$228 at shopbop.com

Sabine Vintage Lace Blouse in "Cobblestone"

Sabine Eyelash Lace Tank in "Ivory"

#5 - Wellies.
Right Now:  Wear them with thick socks or over skinny jeans to stay warm.  They're easy to clean, and you'll end up saving your pretty shoes from being ruined in the snow!!

Spring Look:  When haven't rain boots or wellies been "in" for the Spring?!  Wear them with jeggings or even a dress and tights, and you will stay dry (and stylish) during those April showers.

#6 - Bold Accessories.

Right Now:  Make a bright-colored bag be the "pop of color" in your outfit.  Add rose or yellow gold statement pieces to simple black or gray Winter outfits.

Spring Look:  Carry your bright-colored bag with cute ankle jeans and nude heels.  Mix and match brights (ex. cobalt blue jeans with an orange crossbody bag) and pile on lots of gold to warm up your outfit and bring out the sunshine!!

I hope this post gives you a few ideas for when you're out shopping and are surrounded by so many Spring items!!  I know it can be frustrating... Especially if you're in a part of the country that experiences Winter at its worst, like me!!

  3. I'm all about the colored jeans right now. I wore them in middle school (mid 90s....) and can't believe I'm revisiting this trend. They're so cute though!
