A (Swiss) Company Picnic

On Saturday morning, Dad and I visited the market and shops in nearby Lausanne. Lausanne is full of steep and twisting cobblestone streets, beautiful old churches, and (currently) an endless array of flags from all over the world to support the World Cup.

In the afternoon, Dad and I drove to the company picnic. The theme?? "American Cowboy" of course... Everyone got a cowboy hat or bandanna when you entered, there was a live country music band, and you could even get a hamburger and fries if you wanted :)

(In front of the offices before the company picnic)

I got to see many of the people I had met the day before, including their families and friends. I was surprised at how warm and friendly everyone was - I expected a European company picnic to be a little more uptight than ones in the U.S. but it wasn't!!

The picnic was very family oriented and there were so many fun activities for children - face painting, boomerangs, a moon bounce, a mechanical bull, and those bungee cords that fling you sky-high above the trampoline.

(I told some of the people there that you can ride mechanical bulls at bars in the U.S., which they found quite humorous)

All in all, the company picnic was great to spend an afternoon with Dad, enjoy some great food, and laugh with my new co-workers. Even better was the Swiss/French's take on American country dancing... I would describe it as mix between underground/techno dancing and country line dancing... In a word?? FABULOUS. :)
